East Coast / Community / Ruatoria rugby
Two clubs. One deeply connected rugby place.
Hikurangi’s East Coast story is distinct from Hikurangi RFC in Northland.
A club of the Coast
Hikurangi Sports Club is part of Ruatoria’s rugby community, with adult and junior participation. It is a separate club from Hikurangi RFC in Northland.
The Ruatoria derby
Hikurangi and Ruatoria City share a local rivalry with deep community connections. Their May 2018 meeting at Whakarua Park included the Tanara “Dunn” Kaiwai Trophy.
The Mountain Maidens
Hikurangi’s women also carry the club’s story. Te Amokura Productions’ Sky High series follows the Mountain Maidens, including their match against Ruatoria City at Kahuitara in Hiruharama.
